As private General Practice specialists our mission is to provide high quality care to our patients. Burnside Family Practice is a private billing practice. There are many costs involved in running a quality medical practice including wages for experienced staff, medical equipment and obligations to various reporting bodies. The fees charged by Burnside Family Practice reflect the cost of running an efficient practice that complies with best medical practice and the standards imposed by Accreditation.

The SA Government is squeezing more tax from General Practices – this means we will need to raise fees. It will be harder to find a GP that bulk bills, and some Practices will have to close. Healthcare needs to be affordable for everyone and you can have your say by going to
www.racgp.org.au/advocacy/payy-roll-tax

Our consultation fees vary according to how many problems are dealt with, the complexity of the problem or problems, and the length of time the consultation takes. These are determined by individual doctors and may vary between the Doctors.

Reduced rates are available to pension and concession card holders. This does not apply to Commonwealth Senior’s cards. Benefit cards must be produced upon request or regular fees will apply.

Medicare Rebate – Why is There a Gap?

Unfortunately, the patient rebates from Medicare were frozen from 2014 until 2018 and the most recent increase was again below the consumer price index (inflation). The costs of running a private general practice health care business continue to rise, and the Medicare Rebate now covers less than half of the actual cost of providing high-quality medical care and services. This widening gap is explained in the following link from the Australian Medical Association

https://ama.com.au/sites/default/files/documents/210202_Access_Ec_GP_Workforce_Report.pdf

We would encourage you to discuss any concerns you have about your Medicare Rebates that have not kept up with inflation with your “Federal Member of Parliament.

Fee Increase from 1 st July 2024
Great thought has been put into increasing our fees, which we have not done this lightly.
We look forward to continuing to provide you with high quality healthcare.

What is a standard consultation?

A standard appointment is 15 minutes to address a single query.

If you have more than one query or the matter is complicated, or you are having a Mental Health Plan or you are a new patient with a medical history unknown to us, you should book a longer 30-minute appointment.

We ask that you try to observe the one appointment, one problem ethos. We strive to deal with each medical problem to the highest standard and this proves to be impossible if the Doctors are asked to deal with a number of problems in the one appointment slot. Please also note that the appointment is for you only.

Requesting the appropriate length Consultation at the time of booking, will assist us in running to time, ensuring shorter waiting times.

Please do not be offended if the Doctor asks you to rebook for your other problems if you have not booked the appropriate length appointment. We are working in your best interests to keep you safe.
